So here the answers are hidden. Click the arrow when you want one. Try to think first — even ten seconds is enough.

Read it twice. The second read is where you spot the sneaky word.

Say it out loud. Riddles hide in sounds, and your ears catch what your eyes skip.

Easy riddles to start with

What has hands but cannot clap?

A clock.

What has a face and two hands but no arms or legs?

Also a clock. Clocks are in a lot of riddles.

What goes up but never comes down?

Your age.

What has a neck but no head?

A bottle.

What can you catch but not throw?

A cold.

What has one eye but cannot see?

A needle.

What is full of holes but still holds water?

A sponge.

Funny riddles about animals

What do you call a bear with no teeth?

A gummy bear.

What kind of dog keeps the best time?

A watch dog.

Why do fish live in salt water?

Because pepper makes them sneeze.

What has four legs in the morning, two at lunchtime, and three at night?

A person. You crawl as a baby, walk as a kid, and use a stick when you are old. This riddle is very old, and people still get stuck on it.

What animal can you never trust?

A cheetah.

Trickier ones

These take longer. That is the point.

I am tall when I am young and short when I am old. What am I?

A candle.

The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?

Footsteps.

What gets wetter the more it dries?

A towel.

What can travel around the world while staying in one corner?

A stamp.

What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you do?

Your name.

What has words but never speaks?

A book.

Fair warning: these ones make people cross.

What is at the end of a rainbow?

The letter W.

What is in the middle of nowhere?

The letter H.

What starts with E, ends with E, and has one letter in it?

An envelope.

How many months have 28 days?

All of them. Every month has 28 days. Most just keep going after that.

A rooster lays an egg on a roof. Which way does it roll?

Roosters do not lay eggs.

That one gets people every time. They start working out roof angles in their head.

The trick to solving almost any riddle

There is a pattern here, and once you spot it you get much faster.

If the riddle...	Then check...
Uses a body word — eye, hand, neck, face	A thing with that part. Clock, needle, bottle.
Says "the more you X, the more you Y"	A thing that grows when you use it. Footsteps, holes.
Sounds like it cannot be true	One word is being used two ways. It is a trick, not a fact.
Asks about a letter or a word	The answer is hiding inside the words.
Feels like a fact question	It is probably not one. Check what you just believed.

The rooster one is that last row. You believed roosters lay eggs, because the riddle acted like they do.

That is the whole game. A riddle does not hide the answer. It hides the thing you believed.

Try one on somebody

Pick three. Learn them by heart so you are not reading off a screen.

Tell the easy one first, then a tricky one, then a mean one. People relax, then they get cocky, and then you get them.

If they get all three, they win, and you have to say so.
